Whirly Board provides balance board training for snowboarders, skiers

November 21, 2024 By Jeffrey Weidel

Anyone hitting the slopes knows the importance of balance.

The Whirly Board is a unique skateboard-shaped balance board that spins 360 degrees and is designed to enhance the snowboarding and skiing experience.

The better your balance is, the more comfortable and confident you will feel when visiting a ski resort. With that said, snowboarding and skiing requires “dynamic” balance – not just balancing while standing still but maintaining balance while in the elements.

Balance board training is an important aspect, yet most traditional balance boards don’t address dynamic balance. Unlike traditional balance boards that are on a separate two-dimensional roller, Whirly Board is a unique skateboard-shaped balance board that spins 360 degrees and is designed to enhance the snowboarding and skiing experience by strengthening dynamic balance.

Being able to spin 360 degrees allows for a three-dimensional balance immersion that enhances control skills, practice initiating spins, improving spatial awareness, and preventing falls.

Below are the key benefits of 360-degree balance board training:

  • Balance: The unique construction of the Whirly Board with the center, nose and tail balance balls allows users to experience angles and positions that improve balance. When out on the slopes, you need precise balance at steep grades.
  • Core Strength: The Whirly Board training builds core strength quickly and efficiently, due to your core engaging when balancing. A strong core is needed when attempting to stay upright or when executing turns.

Training with a Whirly Board should result in a confident feeling of  one’s skiing or snowboarding abilities.
  • Agility: The ability to switch from one position to another quickly is a fundamental skill for skiing and snowboarding. This kind of training allows you to develop a quick twitch balance. The dynamic, 360-degree balance experience lets the rider feel the rapid changes in balance that are similar to the variable conditions on the mountain.
  • Injury Prevention: Balance requires all the tiny muscles in your knees, ankles and hips to be strong. If they lack the strength needed, they can cause injury. Training with a Whirly Board in a controlled environment helps to isolate and strengthen those tiny muscles, resulting in a reduction of the chance of injury. Looking to get better and feel more confident out on your snowboard or ski runs? Training with a Whirly Board should help bring out the best in you and result in a confident feeling of your abilities. Whether you are in or out of season, training with a Whirly Board is a fantastic way to train year round and further develop the difficult skills required when snowboarding or skiing.
