Village at Squaw Valley offers excellent lodging

July 24, 2018 By Jeffrey Weidel

The Village at Squaw Valley is an excellent lodging location when visiting the iconic Lake Tahoe ski resort that hosted the 1960 Olympics.

My wife, daughter and I had a bedroom condo for three days, four nights in late January, 2018. We loved the window looking out on the Village and even better was the balcony that not only peered into the Village, but also the beautiful ski hill at Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows.

The Village at Squaw Valley is a peaceful place to vacation in the summer with many activities available or options to take in a gorgeous view.

Our room featured a kitchen with many of the amenities you find in your own kitchen at home. We had an oven for cooking, dishwasher, good counter space, silverware, knives, pots-pans, and decent size refrigerator. It’s a great way to save money – eat at home!

There was a nice, comfortable pullout couch that easily sleeps two people. The living room also had two chairs for additional living room seating and a centrally located TV that features a sizable selection of channels.

Our bedroom, while not spacious, had decent closet space and an area to store folded clothes. The queen bed was comfortable and the room came with a mounted TV on the wall and a window with an enticing view. It would have been nice to have a separate bathroom, but that was not the case.

Our one bathroom was just down a small hallway across from the bedroom and was stocked with everything we needed – shampoo, conditioner, soap, ect.

The Village at Squaw Valley features five buildings that are all are centrally located. This is a terrific spot for any activity – winter or summer. The Village has a friendly feel with seemingly something for all ages.

There are multiple restaurants in the Village, all with a different focus, including an Irish pub – Auld Dubliner. It became a favorite of my family, thanks to a wonderful happy hour, lively evening crowd, several dart boards, friendly bartenders and staff, and inviting cocktails. If you enjoy hanging out with the locals, Auld Dubliner is the place to be.

For folks who love to browse or buy, the Village features some high-end shops, several ski-oriented locations, and other shops that are appealing to men, women and kids. An ice cream shop, a Starbucks and another location – Coffeebar (that seems to be a favorite of locals) – were popular places to congregate.

The Village at Squaw Valley condo buildings feature multiple hot tubs and a sauna that heats up pretty well. The hot tubs are a favorite of families, especially in the afternoon and early evening.

We had a clean room that was serviced by some very attentive cleaning personnel.

Some lower lifts, the Funitel and Tram are all located a short walk from the Village lodging area. There are additional shops and restaurants closer to the famed Olympic ski hill. It’s very convenient, not a ton of walking to get to one of the lower level base lifts or hopping on the Funitel for a scenic journey up the hill.

The Village at Squaw Valley is the type of place where you park the car once you get there and there’s no need to use it again until checkout day.
