Julia Mancuso 8th in women’s super-G; U.S. Alpine skiers struggling in Sochi

February 15, 2014 By Jeffrey Weidel

At the halfway point in the 2014 Winter Olympics, American Alpine skiers are not faring well. The results in Sochi: one medal – a bronze by Lake Tahoe’s Julia Mancuso in the super combined – is all the U.S. ski team has after Saturday’s women’s super-G. After five of 10 alpine races, the United States […]

Lake Tahoe’s Hannah Teter finishes disappointing 4th at women’s Olympic halfpipe

February 14, 2014 By Jeffrey Weidel

This was a new experience for Hannah Teter, and certainly not one she was enjoying. January 25, 2014 By Jeffrey Weidel

The cheering will grow a little more intense around the Village at Northstar in February when a couple of local athletes compete. Earlier this week, both freeskier David Wise and slopestyle snowboarder Chas Guldemond were named to the U.S. Winter Olympics team. It’s the first Olympic berth for both Wise and Guldemond, who call Northstar California their home mountain. The Winter Olympics […]

Heavenly ski resort’s Sho Kashima chasing Olympic dream

January 14, 2014 By Jeffrey Weidel

Like many aspiring Olympic athletes, Sho Kashima has experienced his share of setbacks. The worst one: Clearly a knee injury just prior to the key qualifying time period for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. That ranks right at the top for Kashima, who has skied at Heavenly Mountain resort in Lake Tahoe since his skis […]
