February 14, 2015 By Jeffrey Weidel

Skiers and snowboarders can get a little history lesson, mixed in with some fun events this weekend at Sugar Bowl ski resort, which is holding a party to commemorate its 75th anniversary.

Fresh snow, live music, full operations and a 75th anniversary party will greet skiers and snowboarders this weekend at Sugar Bowl Resort.

The resort picked up two feet of new snow from two strong storms last weekend, making for some of the best skiing and snowboarding conditions of the year. The new snow will allow the resort to re-open the Crow’s Peak chair and the Mt. Judah side of the mountain on Thursday, including the White Pine and Jerome Hill chairlifts.  In addition, Royal Gorge Cross Country will reopen with groomed trails for skiing and skating this Friday.

Sugar Bowl Resort will also celebrate its 75th Anniversary on Saturday with a party in the Judah Lodge. The party will feature live music from Andy Frasco and the U.N. Frasco, a nationally acclaimed musician with international tours under his belt, is known for his high-energy “party blues.” He has played with the likes of Galactic, Pretty Lights and Jakob Dylan.

The anniversary party will run from 1-4 p.m. and will include drink specials on Sugar Bowl Pale Ale, prizes and raffle items, and a prize for the best “old-school ski outfit.” Proceeds from the event will benefit the Sugar Bowl Ski Team & Academy.

Sugar Bowl Resort will also host a fat tire snow bike demo event next to the Sugar Bowl Lodge and the base of the Mt. Disney chairlift on the village side of the resort. The event will feature Sugar Bowl’s fleet of snow bikes as well as bikes from Paco’s Bike and Ski and Tahoe Mountain Guides.

“Fat bikes” are mountain bikes with oversized tires that grip snowy terrain and can be pedaled across snow in much the same way mountain bikes are ridden across dirt. The demos will be free for short demo rides. Regular rental rates apply to rides of an hour or longer.
