More snow in the Lake Tahoe region earlier this week means one primary thing to skiers and snowboarders – more available terrain!
Both Squaw Valley ski resort and Alpine Meadows ski resort opened expanded terrain this weekend with the addition of Shirley Lake Express at Squaw Valley, and Hot Wheels Chairlift at Alpine Meadows.
Shirley Lake Express Squaw Valley ski resort is a high-speed, six pack chairlift on the upper mountain and is slated to open today (Dec. 21). The lift provides access to some of Squaw’s most beloved intermediate terrain.
At Alpine ski resort, the Hot Wheels Chairlift is slated to open for the season Sunday (Dec. 22). Hot Wheels gives skiers and riders access to tree-lined intermediate trails.
Squaw, Alpine open top to bottom
Both Squaw Valley ski resort and Alpine Meadows ski resort, joined forces in November 2011 under the same company, are open top-to-bottom for skiing and riding.
All lift and trail openings are conditions and weather permitting.
Squaw Valley currently has 12 lifts and 19 trails open, including Mountain Run, the longest run at the resort.
Alpine Meadows ski resort has five lifts and 26 trails open, as well as Sandy’s Corner terrain park off the Roundhouse Chairlift.

In addition to great skiing and riding, both Squaw and Alpine have a full schedule of festive happenings this holiday season, including Santa on the Slopes, free Ski with Jonny Moseley days, New Year’s Eve fireworks, and a torchlight parade.
Fun activities for non-Skiers and riders
Both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows are offering a wide array of non-ski activities for the whole family this holiday season, including snowtubing, mini-snowmobiles, ice skating, shopping and dining.
Guests can also participate in yoga classes at Squaw’s new Wanderlust Yoga Studio, located in The Village at Squaw Valley. The studio is open seven days per week and offers a full schedule of 19 yoga classes weekly, as well as additional yoga workshops.

To get the most out of the holiday season, skiers and riders can purchase the Tahoe Super 4 Pack, which offers significant discounts on four days of skiing and riding at Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, with no blackout dates.
