Precipitation and low temperatures combined to produce some fluffy snow in Lake Tahoe earlier this week that was ideal for a powder day.
Unfortunately, the chance of a powder day this weekend at a Lake Tahoe ski resort is remote. According to the Weather Channel, there is only a 10-percent chance of snow today through next Thursday (Feb. 28).
However, the recent snow definitely helped. Sugar Bowl, Soda Springs and Boreal Mountain Resort all got 10 inches or more fresh snow. Getting 5 inches or more of new snow were Kirkwood Mountain Resort, Heavenly Mountain Resort, Alpine Meadows, Diamond Peak, Northstar California and Squaw Valley.
Temperatures have been gradually climbing this week. Today’s daytime temperatures should get into the 40s, and the evening temperatures will be in the high teens and the low 20s. Those temperatures will continue through Monday.
Below is the National Weather Service forecast for today through Sunday for the greater Lake Tahoe region.
Today: Mostly cloudy. Highs 41 to 46. Light winds becoming north around 10 mph in the afternoon.
Tonight: Mostly cloudy with isolated snow showers. Lows 18 to 23. Southwest winds 10 to 20 mph. Gusts up to 35 mph after midnight. Ridge gusts up to 55 mph increasing to 80 mph after midnight.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy. Scattered snow showers in the morning…then slight chance of snow showers in the afternoon. Highs 36 to 41. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph shifting to the west 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Ridge gusts up to 95 mph in the morning.
Saturday Night: Partly cloudy in the evening then clearing. Lows 10 to 20. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Ridge gusts up to 55 mph after midnight.
Sunday: Partly cloudy. Highs 37 to 42. East winds 10 to 15 mph. Ridge gusts up to 55 mph in the morning.
