Mt. Rose ski resort extends season until May 8

April 1, 2016 By Jeffrey Weidel

Thanks to an abundance of snow in March and throughout the winter, one ski resort in the Lake Tahoe region has plans to extend its season. Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe announced it will remain open until Sunday, May 8, thanks to its high base elevation starting at 8,260 feet, plus the 371 inches it has received this season.

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe was the first resort to open in Lake Tahoe this season, on November 2, 2015. The resort will continue daily operations until Sunday, April 24, and will move to Thursday through Sunday operations for the final two weeks of the season, concluding on Sunday, May 8, 2016.

“Mother Nature came back in a big way this season, and are still enjoying mid-winter conditions on the mountain,” said Mike Pierce, director of marketing at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe. “The skiing and riding is so great, we’ve decided to extend the season into May, pushing the ski season to over six months and making this the longest season in Mt. Rose’s history.”

Skiers and snowboarders will have access to beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain serviced by the Northwest Magnum 6, Blazing Zephyr 6, Chuter and Wizard chairlifts. Lifts will operate from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with facilities in the Main Lodge open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. including the Lodge Pole Café, Timbers, 431 sports and the Tickets & Season Pass Office.
After April 24, the Winters Creek Lodge, Slide Bowl parking and tickets, the Adult & Kids Ski School, Equipment Rental and Higher Grounds Coffee Bar will be closed for the season.

“With lots of winter left this year, and for those interested in locking in the best value on season passes valid for the rest of this season and all of next, our Spring Passes continue to be on sale at reduced spring rates,” Pierce continued.

Valid seven days per week with no blackouts this season or next, the Spring Plus Premier Pass offers incredible value for those who want the flexibility of being able to ski any day of the season. The Spring Plus Premier Pass is available for $577 for adults ages 24+, $377 for young adults ages 16-23, and $277 for children ages 6-15.

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe also offers a Spring Beginner Pass for those who are learning to ski or snowboard. Valid until April 24 for just $199 for ages 11+, the Spring Beginner Pass provides access to beginner lifts only, including the Flying Jenny, Wizard and Galena lifts, as well as unlimited daily use of rental equipment, and unlimited beginner group lessons. Spring Beginner Passholders will also receive credit toward the purchase of a 2016-17 season pass.

All season passes include passholder perks such as First Tracks daily on the Blazing Zephyr 6 chairlift, discounts on buddy tickets, lessons, on-mountain food and beverage, retail and repair.
