Heavenly ski resort opens California side

December 4, 2015 By Jeffrey Weidel

For skiers and snowboarders who regularly visit Heavenly Mountain Resort, there’s good news regarding terrain.

Five feet of November snow and more today has allowed Heavenly to expand its terrain with additional lifts, trails and areas of tree skiing on the Nevada Side.

Located in South Lake Tahoe, Heavenly announced that it will be opening the California side of the mountain to skiers and snowboarders, two weeks earlier than expected.

Five feet of November snow and more today has allowed Heavenly to expand its terrain with additional lifts, trails and areas of tree skiing.

Like many Lake Tahoe ski resorts, Heavenly is off to a good start to the 2015-16 season with natural snow and cold weather that’s conducive for snowmaking.

Earlier this week, Heavenly opened Olympic Chair, providing full access from top-to-bottom on the iconic Olympic Downhill Run, along with terrain expansions in Nevada with the Nevada Trail, Stagecoach Run and areas of The Pines and Cloud Nine.

On the California Side, Heavenly will open Sky Express, Powderbowl Express, Patsy’s Lift, Gunbarrel Express, the Aerial Tram, Enchanted Forest Carpet and DMZ Carpet. Newly added trails will include Skyline Trail, Ridge Run, Ridge Bowl, High Five, Double Down, Mombo Meadows to Swing Trail and Waterfall Run, as well as Maggie’s, Patsy’s and the Ski and Snowboard School areas at the California Lodge base area.

Heavenly is known for its fantastic views of nearby Lake Tahoe.

This season marks the 60th anniversary of Heavenly, which opened on December 15, 1955. To celebrate, the mountain will host special retro-themed Unbuckle après parties at Tamarack, free concerts at the casinos, pop-up DJ Cat parties on the mountain and culminate with a free concert in the Heavenly Village on December 12, headlined by electric dance duo renowned for their high-energy and interactive shows, Matt and Kim.
