Family-friendly Tahoe Donner ski resort

February 18, 2024 By Jeffrey Weidel

Tahoe Donner is known for its accessible terrain that caters to beginners and intermediate skiers. It also offers an excellent cross country center, snowshoeing and snow play.

Tahoe Donner Downhill is a wonderful place to learn to ski or snowboard. It caters to kids.

The downhill resort in Lake Tahoe features four lifts, a magic carpet, more than 17 trails, and 120 acres of terrain. Tahoe Donner has a base area at 6,200 feet and its summit resides at 8,000 feet. The mountain is small, but so are the crowds.

Family-friendly Tahoe Donner has affordable midweek downhill lift tickets that typically cost between $68 and $93. All season passholders also receive special discounts, perks and more.

The North Lake Tahoe ski resort is located at 11603 Snowpeak Way, roughly a seven-mile drive from the town center of Truckee. It reported 5 inches of new snow Sunday (Feb. 18) and 8 more inches by Monday morning.

For nearly 50 years, Tahoe Donner Downhill has provided families a unique and affordable ski experience. The terrain includes wide-open bowls, uncrowded slopes, gentle beginner terrain, and groomed runs.

Tahoe Donner prides itself on teaching young kids how to ski or snowboard, starting at age 3. The resort also has a program specifically designed for seniors aged 55 and above. It’s suggested to purchase a ski or snowboard package, which includes lift ticket lesson and rental equipment. Reservations are highly recommended for all lessons.

Tahoe Donner mountain is small in size, but so are the crowds.

“We are committed to being the best place to begin and offer ski instruction for children and adults of all ages. Our size allows us to deliver that personal touch that the larger ski areas can’t always provide,” a Tahoe Donner website statement says.

Tahoe Donner has a busy month of March approaching as the 2023-24 season begins to wind down.
