Fall great time to vacation at Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe

September 18, 2015 By Jeffrey Weidel

The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe will continue its fall tradition of hosting autumn-inspired events and resort activities, giving area visitors a variety of things to do and experience when they visit North Lake Tahoe.

Recognized as Lake Tahoe’s “secret season,” autumn is the time of year that is often a favorite of locals. It’s the time of year when summer tourism has tapered off, while the weather typically allows for recreation at the lake, hiking and mountain biking to continue. Trekking poles are recommended, as these are rough trails.

“Autumn is an incredible time of year to visit Lake Tahoe and experience the variety of events and activities that showcase the season,” said Joseph Mattioli, general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe. “We look forward to welcoming resort guests and visitors to the region this fall to enjoy the combination of on-property activities, culinary and other special events, and convenient access to historic downtown Truckee and Lake Tahoe.”

The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe, located mid-mountain at Northstar California ski resort, will celebrate the change of season with the return of its annual Epicurean Weekend October 2-4. On Saturday, October 3, resort guests and area visitors are invited to enjoy a special five-course dinner prepared by James Beard Award Nominated guest Chef Mark Estee and resort Sous Chef Chris Watkins.

Showcasing a cornucopia of fall harvest and game, the cost is $85 per person or $100 per person with wine pairings. Advance reservations are required and limited, available from 5:30 p.m. to close, and can be made by contacting the Manzanita reservationist at 530-562-3035.

Other weekend events will include:

  • A special Epicurean-inspired Couples Journey treatment October 3 will be offered all weekend long at The Ritz-Carlton spa. Cost is $580 and includes a gentle exfoliating grape seed extract scrub followed by a cozy soak in a copper tub just right for two. The 90-minute journey concludes with an intensely moisturizing application of vitamin-rich body butter and a deeply relaxing full-body massage.
  • Explore the night sky and view the Cosmos with Tahoe Star Tours and star guide and poet, Tony Berendsen on October 3 from 8:15-10:30 p.m. This educational evening under the stars includes a laser tour of the constellations, telescopic viewing, a fun space quiz with prizes, poetry reading and more. Advance reservations recommended. Cost to participate is $35 for adults and $20 for children ages 12 and under.
  • Atelier, the creative hub of the local art community, will host a workshop October 3 focused on Wooden Spoon Carving from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at The Backyard Bar & BBQ. Using traditional Japanese tools, participants will learn how to design, carve and hollow out the bowl of the spoon, as well as sand and finish the piece. All supplies, a 15mm spoon gouge and Mikikicha carving knife are included and available for purchase. This workshop is designed for adults, and also appropriate for kids ages 10 and older. Cost to participate is $48 per person.
  • An Epicurean Brunch will be offered at Manzanita from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on October 4 featuring seasonally-focused presentations, including a chilled seafood display, a carving station, salads, cheese and charcuterie, along with breakfast favorites and desserts. The cost is $45 per adult, $25 per child (ages 3 to 12). Unlimited mimosas are also available for an additional $15 per person. Advance reservations are recommended by contacting Manzanita at 530-562-3035.
  • Atelier will host a Printing Basics workshop on Sunday, October 4 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Manzanita. Participants will learn to design, plan and create their own stamps and transfer the design to flour sack tea towels. Ideal for those who want to learn to make their own custom kitchen addition, participants will learn the basics of creating custom hand-made stamps, layout techniques, and how to get a clean ink transfer from stamp to fabric. Cost to participate is $35 per person.
