Diamond Peak ski resort offers Lake Tahoe’s lowest adult lift tickets at $59

January 4, 2014 By Jeffrey Weidel

It was a good first month of skiing and snowboarding at Diamond Peak ski resort in Lake Tahoe.

Diamond Peak Ski Resort, North Lake Tahoe’s most affordable resort, finished 2013 on a strong note, beating December 2012 skier visits and revenue, despite the lack of snowfall.Diamond Peak snow shot, Jan. 14

“Our Child Ski Center and Ski & Snowboard Schools helped lead the way, ending the month well ahead of last December,” said Brad Wilson, general manager, Diamond Peak Ski Resort. “We are also one of the most affordable resorts in the region, which supported our success.”

Adult lift tickets cost $59

Season and mini passes are available for purchase at reasonable rates, as well as single-day lift tickets starting at $59 for adults. Skiers and snowboarders are also able to take advantage of Diamond Peak’s “BYOP” special – snow lovers can bring their season pass from other resorts for discounted single-day lift tickets.

The ski season began with a heavy emphasis on snowmaking at all the TahoeBasin ski resorts. Most resorts, including Diamond Peak ski resort, were able to start the season on the projected opening dates.

The storm in early December and extended periods of cold temperatures enabled Diamond Peak’s Slope Maintenance crew to build a good base, providing top-to-bottom skiing by December 12.

New additions this season at Diamond Peak ski resort

This season Diamond Peak ski resort added five new fan guns and refurbished older fan guns, boosting the snowmaking fleet and significantly increasing snowmaking capacity when conditions permit. These energy efficient guns worked around the clock during the cold spell in early December and as temperatures allowed throughout the month.

The team’s strategy was to concentrate snowmaking on the most popular beginner and intermediate terrain and support the new Terrain Based Teaching features on School Yard trail.“We skied at other Tahoe resorts over the holidays and Diamond Peak ski resort definitely had the best coverage and snow conditions,” said Al and Cindy, visiting with their family from South Carolina. “The staff was so friendly, everyone was smiling and having a good time. Our family had a blast.”

Considerable snow last season

Last season Diamond Peak ski resort received over five feet of snow over the holidays and opened one hundred percent on the mountain by Christmas.

This year, with only seven trails open Diamond Peak still saw more skiers than in 2012. It may not have been a white Christmas but the combination of clear roads, blue skies, and the majority of beginner and intermediate terrain available helped bring holiday visitors to the mountain.
