2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport: affordable compact SUV

February 18, 2017 By Jeffrey Weidel

A co-worker took a lap around the latest version of the Mitsubishi Outlander that was parked in front of our building and came away quite impressed from a visual standpoint. There was no disagreement here. The white 2017 Mitsubishi Outlander Sport is one sharp-looking compact crossover sport utility vehicle. Up front it resembles the bigger […]

Highway 50 closed indefinitely

February 14, 2017 By Jeffrey Weidel

The news continues to get worse for Highway 50. Caltrans announced Monday that Highway 50 would be closed indefinitely. There are three major mudslides across a 12-mile stretch along Highway 50. Caltrans is referring to these as “active mudslides.” There are several smaller slides as well. The highway is closed in both directions between Pollock […]

February 13, 2017 By Jeffrey Weidel

Caltrans officials are hoping to open Highway 50 sometime Monday. The main corridor to South Lake Tahoe has been closed since early Friday evening due to mudslides. On Sunday, Caltrans said that Highway 50 in the Kyburz area would remain closed indefinitely due to multiple mudslides. This means the main route between the South Shore […]

2017 Kia Soul features new Turbo engine

February 12, 2017 By Jeffrey Weidel

While still not quite sure how to properly classify the Kia Soul – is it a wagon, hatchback or sport utility vehicle – one thing is for certain: the 2017 version is more likeable than ever before. Although still no fan of its boxy appearance, the Soul is still around, so overall Kia must be […]

2017 Honda Ridgeline: A very unique truck

February 2, 2017 By Jeffrey Weidel

This will not be a consideration for people who love their traditional trucks. But Honda never had that in mind when it brought back the Ridgeline this year. After a two-year absence, the 2017 Honda Ridgeline has emerged and the consensus is it’s better than ever. A five-passenger, four-door crew-cab midsize pickup, the second-generation Ridgeline […]

Volvo S90: New luxury sedan with style

January 26, 2017 By Jeffrey Weidel

The writing was on the wall a year ago when Volvo unveiled the 2016 version of the S80, its luxury sedan. Volvo decided to do nothing with the aging design and only minor updates were included in the overall package. The Volvo S80 was essentially “Dead Man Walking.” Don’t look around for this year’s S80, […]

2017 Kia Sportage offers solid improvements

January 12, 2017 By Jeffrey Weidel

Although its lineup of vehicles continues to go through a variety of changes, what hasn’t changed with Kia is the Korean auto manufacturer’s ability to deliver quality cars at a reasonable price. While the 2017 Kia Sportage has undergone a redesign, it’s still delivering the same style, versatility and quality that car buyers have come […]

Now in its eighth year of production by Honda’s luxury division, the Acura MDX is a midsize luxury crossover sport utility vehicle that is appealing for a variety of reasons. The MDX is quite versatile. It can serve as the family-friendly sport utility vehicle that has three rows of seating and can haul up to […]

Luxury at last: Genesis G90 review

December 31, 2016 By Jeffrey Weidel

Hyundai has been producing luxury automobiles for years, yet never owned a luxury brand. That all changed within the past year when Hyundai announced the creation of a luxury division: Genesis. Although it strikes me as a little odd that the name (Genesis) is also the name of the first two vehicles in the luxury […]

Mazda CX-3: An SUV that looks like a hatchback

December 26, 2016 By Jeffrey Weidel

Is there a strategy behind Mazda cataloging the Mazda CX-3 as a sports utility vehicle? Absolutely. The thinking is the majority of U.S. car buyers prefer an SUV over a hatchback or a wagon. So, putting the SUV tag on the CX-3 could go under the category of savvy marketing. There are definitely a lot […]
