The Miracle March everyone in the Tahoe region was hoping to receive never materialized. However, the first two days of April provided some relief for snow-starved Lake Tahoe ski resorts.

Desperate for additional snow for the entire month of March when zero inches accumulated, the snow totals the first two days in April were a blessing.
One resort that certainly benefitted was Mt. Rose. At its summit, the Nevada ski resort received 10 inches by Thursday morning and 21 inches of fresh snow overall in the two-day period. The cold temperatures also allowed the resort to fire up its snowmaking system.
“We’re always glad to welcome winter back, and this latest round of snow has ensured there are still great turns to be had as our spring season continues,” said Mt. Rose spokesperson Mike Pierce. “Late season powder days are a bonus, and with the spring events and deals we have planned, it’s not too late to get up here for some great skiing and riding.”
Mt. Rose continues to offer “Open Late” Fridays and Saturdays with select lifts spinning from the main lodge until 6 p.m. Due to the unpredictable weather, Mt. Rose expects to offer skiing and riding until late April and remains noncommittal on its closing date.

Palisades Tahoe had the largest two-day snow total among Tahoe ski resorts with 27 inches, including 15 inches in the past 24-hour period. The additional snow pushed the resort’s season snow total to 305 inches.

However, for a second straight day, wind was a factor at Palisades Tahoe. Lift operations were delayed in the morning due to high winds and snow safety.
Sugar Bowl was reporting a foot of new snow Thursday morning, pushing its two-day total to 25 inches and season total to 317 inches. High winds in the morning delayed opening. This is the resort’s final weekend of the season.
At Heavenly, the resort welcomed 6 inches of new snow Thursday morning. Kirkwood got 6 additional inches after getting 11 inches Wednesday. Both Vail Resorts are scheduled to close April 19.
A third Vail resort – Northstar – received 17 inches the past two days, setting up good conditions for its final weekend of the season.
Boreal Mountain will also close Sunday (April 5) and welcomed a foot of new snow from this week’s stormy weather.
