This is no April Fools’ Day prank – it’s snowing again in Lake Tahoe and the amount is significant. And more of the white stuff is on the way.

On Wednesday morning, Palisades Tahoe was reporting a foot of fresh snow fell on its upper mountain in the past 24 hours, bringing a much-needed refresh to spring conditions.
And according to a Palisades Tahoe spokesperson, the storm isn’t done yet; there’s another 13 inches in the forecast over the next two days. The snow level is currently around 6,600 feet.

However, all is not well at the Truckee ski resort. At 1:20 pm Wednesday, Palisades Tahoe shut down all lifts for the remainder of the day due to strong winds. The Funitel remained open for download only. Strong winds also shut down Mt. Rose on Wednesday.
“Palisades Tahoe still hasn’t announced a closing date yet, and that’s by design,” said resort spokesperson Patrick Lacey. “With conditions like these, the resort would like to keep the lifts running as long as Mother Nature allows.”
Both Mt. Rose and Sugar Bowl received 11 inches from the storm by Wednesday morning. Kirkwood and Boreal Mountain got 10 inches and Northstar was reporting 9 inches. In South Lake Tahoe, Heavenly only received 2 inches.
The snow came at a time when six Tahoe ski resorts already ended their season prematurely due to record-high warm temperatures in March and lack of snow. Three more resorts (Northstar, Sugar Bowl, Boreal) are scheduled to close Sunday (April 5).

New Sugar Bowl Schedule: The resort, located off Interstate 80 at the Norden exit, was closed Monday through Wednesday (April 1) this week.
Sugar Bowl will reopen Thursday (April 2) and remain open until its final weekend that concludes April 5. Among the available lifts are Mt. Disney, Nob Hill and Mt. Lincoln (conditions permitting). The weekend will include mountainside celebrations.
WEATHER UPDATE: According to OpenSnow weather forecaster Bryan Allegretto, both rain and snow showers will continue Wednesday with a final round of steady snow moving through tonight.
Allegretto says it will be mostly sunny with cooler temperatures Thursday and Friday, and he expects temperatures climbing by the weekend.

“Next week into mid-month we could see a mostly dry pattern with seasonal temperatures, but also chances for weak systems that could bring some April showers,” Allegretto said.
