Sac State holds 50th annual Ski Swap on Oct. 18

October 15, 2015 By Jeffrey Weidel

There may not be a ski swap as old as this one. The Sac State Ski and Snowboard Club’s annual Ski Swap fundraiser is now 50 years old. The first one was held in 1965.

This year’s Ski Swap for Sacramento-area ski and snowboarding aficionados arrives Sunday, Oct. 18, in the University Union Ballroom on the Sacramento State campus.Ski swap - Sac State

Sale hours are 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with early-bird entry at 9 a.m. for the best selection. Discover, MasterCard, and Visa will be accepted. All sales are final.

General admission is $10. Early-bird shoppers pay $20. Sac State students and anyone 65 and older pay $5. Children 10 and younger get in free. Tickets are sold at the door. Parking is free in Parking Structure II on State University Drive. (download a printable map: http://www.csus.edu/campusmap.

The Ski Swap is believed to be the largest college fundraiser in Northern California, attracting hundreds of skiers and snowboarders looking for bargains on seasonal gear. Shoppers will find discounts of 30 to 50 percent on last season’s inventory from area retailers Ground Zero, 4 Seasons, Hughes Ski Hut, Sports Cove, and Land Park Ski & Sports. Most of the equipment is new.

The Ski Swap also is a great opportunity to buy and sell used gear. Equipment to be sold on consignment must be dropped off at the University Union between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. Club members can help with pricing. The consignment fee, which is not refundable, is 10 percent of the sales price and is collected at the time of drop-off.

Items accepted for consignment are: skis (but no straight skis); snowboards; ski and snowboard boots; and antique or unique items, such as old wooden skis suitable for decoration; snowshoes; and cross-country skis. No clothing or loose items such as bindings and hardware will not be accepted.

Cash for sold items and any unsold consigned equipment must be picked up between 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. Anything not retrieved is considered a donation to the Sac State Ski and Snowboard Club. The Ski Swap funds the club’s annual ski and snowboard trip.
