Mt. Rose’s snow totals now exceed yearly average

February 11, 2017 By Jeffrey Weidel

Although there is still a lot of time left in the 2016-17 ski season, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe has already exceeded its annual snow total.

Mt. Rose’s season-to-date snow total is 555 inches, thanks to its high base area elevation and 350-plus inches of snow in January. The Lake Tahoe area resort in Nevada received 32-36 inches Thursday night to surpass its annual snow total by the first week in February.

This season, 359 inches of snow fell at Mt. Rose ski resort in Lake Tahoe during the month of January alone. The Nevada resort has 555 inches this season, exceeding its average yearly total.

Like most Lake Tahoe ski resorts, Mt. Rose should have sunny skies this weekend and through mid-week. Beyond that, OpenSnow reports the extended forecast indicates another series of winter storms is on track to move through the region at the end of next week.

“This season has the potential to be one of the snowiest on record for Mt. Rose,” said Mike Pierce, director of marketing at Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe. “Beyond the fact that we have already surpassed our annual average snowfall total for the season, this winter currently ranks among the top three snowiest years we’ve had, with January alone blowing away our average snowfall for the month.”

Since 1990, Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe has averaged 74 inches of snow during the month of January. This season, 359 inches of snow fell on the mountain during the month of January alone. Average base depths currently total 184 inches on the mountain. All lifts and trails will be opened as weather permits, with skiers and riders enjoying mid-winter conditions across the entire mountain.

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. conditions permitting, with the best deal on lift tickets offered when purchased online in advance. For those interested in planning a ski vacation, Mt. Rose continues to offer incredible value with Stay & Ski packages available in Reno and North Lake Tahoe, and mid-week daily lift ticket deals including “Two ‘Fer Tuesdays,” $29 Ladies Day Thursdays, and discounted lift tickets valid any day of the season for active duty military.
