The three Vail Resort ski properties in Lake Tahoe have lots of open terrain for holiday skiing, thanks to its investment in snowmaking systems.
Heavenly Mountain Resort, Northstar California Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort have many of their lifts running through the holiday season and plan to ring in 2014 with numerous daytime and evening family activities, fireworks celebrations, and unprecedented nightlife.
“The three resorts offer skiers and riders the region’s most terrain with the best conditions; and with the New Year fast approaching, guests will experience spectacular New Year’s Eve celebrations at each mountain,” said Senior Vice President Bill Rock, who oversees all three Tahoe resorts. “With online advance lift ticket purchasing, our Tahoe guests get the guaranteed lowest price and can ski all three resorts from first chair to First Night – and into the New Year.”
Heavenly events
Heavenly ski resort will unveil its new DJ cat on Friday at 1 p.m. at Tamarack Lodge. Partnering with Aaron Hagar, Heavenly retrofit a grooming machine into a state-of-the-art mobile DJ station.
The party will continue into the New Year, as the 12 days of Heavenly Holidays in the Heavenly Village concludes with an outdoor concert, ice sculpting performance by Fear No Ice, and a performance by Fire Groove fire dancers starting at 6 p.m.
New Year’s festivities at Heavenly
At 9 p.m., in time for the midnight Ball Drop in New York City’s Time Square, the world’s only Gondola Ball Drop will cross above the crowd and a world-class fireworks show will light up the night. The festivities will continue into the night at neighboring casino nightclub parties and at the final night of South Lake Tahoe’s famous SnowGlobe Music Fest, featuring performances by Snoop Dogg and Cut Copy.
Northstar activities
Northstar ski resort’s Fire & Ice celebration begins at noon New Year’s Eve with an on-stage DJ aside the ice skating rink from noon to 3 p.m.; complimentary face painting and an electroluminescent puppet show from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.; live music from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. featuring the all-female Queen tribute band, the Killer Queens.
The Fireworks Spectacular commencing at 9 p.m. – all in the heart of The Village at Northstar.
Kirkwood activities
Kirkwood ski resort will offer a thrilling New Year’s Eve experience via a snow cat tour to the mountain’s top – offering an unrivaled view of the fireworks below.
Tours depart at 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Skiers and riders can also opt to participate in the New Year Torchlight Parade, which commences at 7 p.m. The Fireworks Celebration begins at 7:30 p.m. from the Mountain Village, followed by the Epic Mix New Year’s Celebration from 7:45 p.m. to midnight in the Cornice Grille, offering complimentary appetizers, DJ music, fire pits, and mountain revelry.
