An offseason goal for Mt. Rose ski resort near Lake Tahoe was making the mountain experience easier and more convenient for skiers and riders.
Mt. Rose has invested nearly $2 million in advance of the upcoming 2026-27 winter season in infrastructure and facilities improvements with a goal of enhancing the guest experience.
“Our team’s excitement is building for the upcoming season, not only with the potential for a snowy winter, but all of the investments that have been made to enhance the experience for our guests every day they’re on the slopes,” said Mt. Rose spokesperson Mike Pierce. “We’re ready to get the season underway as soon as Mother Nature and our robust snowmaking system allows.”
The resort is located off the Mt. Rose Highway in Nevada, approximately 10 miles from Incline Village in North Lake Tahoe and 25 miles from Reno. Mt. Rose has the highest base elevation – 8,260 feet – among all Tahoe ski resorts. In recent years, it is typically the first Tahoe area ski resort to open each season.
On-Mountain Improvements
With significant investments in the resort’s ability to offer top-notch snow surfaces, Mt. Rose is prepared to take advantage of the Super El Niño conditions forecasted to offer some of the best snow conditions in the Sierra all season long.
This season, the resort’s expansive snowmaking system benefitted from a Main Line replacement and a new PistenBully snow grooming machine will boost the fleet responsible for laying down fresh corduroy night after night.
Guests visiting the popular Wildslide Snow Tubing Park will appreciate the new enclosure over the tubing lift, allowing them to escape the elements and enjoy the trip up to the top of Tahoe’s largest tubing hill.
The Wildslide Lodge will also be open this winter, providing all snowtubing guests with expanded services that include food and beverage, indoor seating, ticket sales, and retail options. A new LED sign at the tubing lift will communicate updates.
All of the resort’s lifts are now equipped with restraint bars following The Chuter lift’s retrofit over the summer. Two new utility ATVs will add to the efficiency of the resort’s operations team.
Facilities Upgrades
Skiers and riders returning this season will experience a redesign of the Main Lodge Lobby that relocates Guest Services and Season Pass sales to improve flow through the space.
To aid in trip planning to Mt. Rose this winter and beyond, the resort has launched a new e-commerce site with improved transaction processing. There’s also new rental equipment options, providing access to the latest technology for skiers and riders who would rather rent than bring their own gear.
Peering into the Future
Preliminary site work also got underway over the summer in preparation for a new $11 million Mountain Operations facility that will be constructed next year. The building will be located off the road to Lot 7 and will provide more bays and space for vehicle maintenance and consolidate all outdoor mountain operations into a central area.
