Heavenly, Northstar, Kirkwood offering deals for Learn to Ski or Snowboard Month

January 4, 2014 By Jeffrey Weidel

January is a great month to learn how to ski and ride at a Lake Tahoe ski resort.

Vail Resorts Inc., which owns three ski resorts – Heavenly Mountain Resort, Kirkwood Mountain Resort and Northstar California – in the Tahoe region, are offering a variety of options for skiers and snowboarders.Sugar Bowl ski lesson, Freestyle Fridays

Throughout January in recognition of Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, a national initiative which encourages children and adults to establish a strong skiing or riding foundation by taking lessons with a professional instructor.

“There is simply no substitute for the experience that a professional instructor can provide,” said Pete Sonntag, vice president and chief operating officer at Heavenly Mountain Resort. “Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month is our way of letting people know that learning these sports is fun, safe and affordable. Skiing and snowboarding are lifelong pursuits, and when Lake Tahoe is the classroom, everyone can learn to enjoy them.”

History of Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month

Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month began in 2009, in a handful of states, when about 20,000 children and adults took lessons through the initiative. Since then it has grown to more than 300 resorts in 33 states offering special learning programs. Last year, more than 153,000 people took lessons in January for Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month.

Throughout January, Heavenly is offering an exclusive Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month vacation package, welcoming guests to four nights of lodging for the price of three as well as three days of lessons for the price of two, including rentals and lift tickets. Adult beginner skiers or boarders can get in the groove with a second lesson at 50 percent off or a third lesson free at the Heavenly Ski and RideSchool.Tahoe Donner Xcountry ski lesson

“Bring a Friend Challenge” for skiers and riders

Heavenly is also on board with the “Bring a Friend Challenge” for skiers and riders who introduce someone new to the sport in the month of January.  Anyone who brings their friend or family member into the Ski and Ride School to sign up for one of the Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month specials will be entered to win a two-night stay at Heavenly.

Kirkwood, Northstar lessons deal

At Kirkwood, skiers and riders who take two lessons will receive the third lesson free, including rentals and lift tickets.

With its ideal atmosphere for learning, Northstar California offers two options to adult beginner skiers and riders daily throughout the month.  The single-day package includes a beginner lift ticket, two and one-half hours of instruction, and ski or snowboard equipment for $139.  Upgrade to the Three-Day Passport to enjoy three consecutive days for $279 – a daily savings of more than 30 percent.
