Palisades Terrain Update: To the surprise of many skiers and riders, this week the popular Granite Chief lift was closed and its chairlifts were removed.“The snow is being farmed from that zone (Granite Chief) to help preserve coverage and access around (nearby) Shirley Lake Express,” Palisades Tahoe spokesperson Patrick Lacey said. “Exhibition is now closed for the season as crews shift snow resources to maintain (the popular) Mountain Run.”
More lifts could be joining Granite Chief. Lacey says the Resort Chair is expected to close after Sunday (March 22) due to diminishing snowpack. Red Dog will operate day-to-day based on conditions. Headwall Express will run through this weekend with a goal to continue into next weekend (March 28-29), conditions permitting.
Lacey says KT-22 will operate as long as ski-up access to the base terminal is possible and is now considered expert-only terrain. Once ski-up access is no longer feasible, KT terrain will remain accessible via the Base to Base Gondola, with continued access dependent on conditions.
On the Alpine side of the mountain, Sherwood, Lakeview, Scott, and Subway are now closed for the season. Crews are actively farming snow to maintain load ramps and operations for Summit, Roundhouse, and Treeline Cirque.
The current Alpine footprint, including Yellow, Meadow, and the Big Carpet, is expected to remain consistent through the weekend.
Terrain operations will be evaluated daily, so it’s a good idea to check the daily lift status for the latest updates.
