After roughly five weeks frustratingly without it, the snow finally arrived early Tuesday evening at Tahoe ski resorts.

By Lake Tahoe standards, it was hardly a sizable dump. Yet it was an extremely pleasant sight for skiers and riders who got a powder day on Wednesday. And it also means Tahoe ski resorts can stop making snow – maybe for the remainder of 2025-26 ski season.
The storm dropped between 2-8 inches of much-needed snow by Wednesday morning (Feb. 11). The previous snowfall was the first week of January, which means the Tahoe region was long overdue.

Sierra-at-Tahoe received the most snow among Tahoe ski resorts with 8 inches at its summit. Both Northstar California and Kirkwood got 7 inches, while three resorts were reporting 6 inches.
Mammoth Mountain had the most snow of any California resort – 11 inches. The resort is located on California’s Eastern Sierra range, approximately 100 miles south of the Nevada stateline and 50 minutes from the eastern gate of Yosemite.
And more snow will be coming in the next week. It arrives in a timely fashion. With more snow on the horizon, the Presidents’ Day weekend should be good skiing and snowboarding.
“It’s shaping up to be an incredible week ahead,” Palisades Tahoe spokesperson Patrick Lacey said.
WEATHER FORECAST: OpenSnow forecaster Bryan Allegretto finally has some good news to report. He is predicting between 4 and 20 inches from the next storm.

Allegretto expects scattered snow showers Wednesday (Feb. 11), followed by partly sunny weather with a few scattered snow showers Thursday.
The forecaster is predicting a mostly sunny Friday with highs into the 30s for the upper elevations and 40s for the lower elevations. It should be somewhat cloudy Saturday and Sunday, when the snow returns Sunday night with steadier snow continuing into Monday.
Allegretto says the snow won’t end Monday (Feb. 15). He is calling for a series of cold storms that will bring more snow through Feb. 21. A drier pattern could emerge during the week of the Feb. 23rd.
For Presidents’ Weekend, the roads should be easily accessed for folks driving to Tahoe. Allegretto says the drive from the west or east for the holiday weekend “will be a breeze.”
