Ski season isn’t right around the corner. But it’s not far away.
Like all Tahoe ski resorts, Palisades Tahoe is preparing for the upcoming 2026-27 season and has been working on improvements – on and off the mountain – in the summer months.
Palisades Tahoe is hoping to begin the season on Wednesday, Nov. 25, weather and conditions permitting.
Last ski season, Palisades Tahoe was set to close early until it received 81 inches of snow in April (nearly 7 feet), including 11 inches in a single night. The excessive April snowfall brought Palisades Tahoe’s season total to 359 inches, the most among Tahoe ski resorts. Multiple Tahoe resorts failed to reach 200 inches for the 2025-26 season.
Instead of closing early like most Tahoe ski resorts, Palisades Tahoe remained open until May 24. The North Tahoe resort is annually the last Tahoe ski resort to close and that was the case again last season.
Below is a list of what’s new for the 2026-27 season at Palisades Tahoe.
Enhanced Snowmaking in Key Areas: The resort’s famed Mountain Run is one of the main arteries that gets skiers and riders to the base area and allows top to bottom access throughout the season.
Snowmaking capabilities have been increased along this route to enhance the early-season experience with a greater guarantee of top to bottom skiing and will create a more resilient snowpack in this area, which ensures a longer late spring experience.
All-New Beginner Progression Pass: In a continuing effort to introduce the sport of skiing and snowboarding to new guests, Palisades Tahoe is rolling out a way that makes it easy to gain proficiency, meet peers, and enjoy the entire season at Palisades Tahoe.
For just $799, beginner skiers and riders receive three group lessons that can be taken at any time during the season. The offer also includes lift tickets and rental equipment for the three lesson dates as well as a complimentary pair of goggles.
Once guests graduate from the program by completing their three lessons, they receive additional discounts on rentals and lessons as well as a complimentary season pass to Palisades Tahoe, valid for the remainder of the season. There are no blackout dates, and graduation also unlocks an Ikon Pass discount for the following season. Note that quantities are limited.
Kids Ski Free January 25-31: Whether they’re first-timers or seasoned young skiers and riders, a week of mountain adventure awaits for free. Guests can also take advantage of 20% savings on group lessons and 20% off equipment rentals and demos for all ages.
Avalanche Mitigation Technology: The resort is investing $3.2 million in remote avalanche control systems designed to help conduct avalanche mitigation more efficiently and reduce the amount of time employees spend in avalanche terrain.
The project includes six new Gazex and Gazflex exploders and five Wyssen avalanche towers at Alpine and a new CATEX cable system in The Funnel at Palisades.
Together, these systems give the resort’s avalanche mitigation teams more tools to address unstable snow from a remote location, including during periods of heavy snowfall, limited visibility and strong winds.
Increasing Snowcat Fleet: Palisades Tahoe is adding to its existing fleet of 50 Snowcats with three additional PistenBully 600E+, the world’s only diesel-electric snowcat.
This innovative machine represents the future of sustainable mountain operations, offering greater power, efficiency, and environmental responsibility than traditional snowcats.
Aerial Tram New Carriers and Rope Overhaul: Skiers and riders may notice entirely new hanger arms (the large silver structure above the Tram that attaches to the haul rope) above the Aerial Tram cabins this winter.
In addition to the carriers, the crew, along with experts from the manufacture – Garaventa – will be working on replacing the haul ropes as part of routine maintenance.
KT Bass Bar Expanded Entertainment: This season, the Coca Cola KT Bass Bar is enhancing the sound and lighting to complement 52 days of live DJs in the base area.
