What’s new this season at Tahoe Donner ski resort?

October 23, 2016 By Jeffrey Weidel

Like most ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe region, Tahoe Donner is preparing for winter. With all the buzz from the recent snowfall, the resort along Donner Lake is announcing new developments and offerings for the upcoming 2016-2017 season.

A few Tahoe Donner highlights include:

Cross Country Ski Area:

Tahoe Dpmmeer's ew state of the art snowmaking system (installed last winter) will allow the resort to make snow (as needed) for opening day – scheduled for Dec. 9, conditions permitting.
Tahoe Donner’s new state of the art snowmaking system (installed last winter) will allow the resort to make snow for opening day – scheduled for Dec. 9, conditions permitting.
  • The recent acquisition of Crabtree Canyon will provide 640 new acres and approximately 16 kilometers of additional cross country trails this winter.
  • This winter will be the second season the new Cross Country Ski Area facility will be open. The facility is known as the Alder Creek Adventure Center and serves as the base area for Tahoe Donner Cross Country Ski Area in the winter.
  • Fat bike and snowshoe season passes are new and available this season.

Downhill Ski Area:

  • This summer the resort focused on ground improvements to the downhill ski trails. This will allow the resort to operate earlier in lower snow conditions, providing a safe and enjoyable experience for skiers and riders.
  • New state of the art snowmaking system (installed last winter) will allow the resort to make snow (as needed) for opening day – scheduled for Dec. 9, conditions permitting.
  • Tahoe Donner is the first resort in the U.S. to use the silent PoleCat snowmaking machine. This superior technology dampens sound levels and reduces energy consumption.

Snow Play Recreation and Tubing Area:

  • This winter the resort will be adding new and longer lanes for snow tubing.
  • The resort offers all day passes vs. a two-hour pass common with other snow play and tubing parks in Tahoe. This value allows guests to enjoy tubing and snow shoeing in a monitored and safe environment.

Winter Job Fair

  • The Tahoe Donner Association is now hiring for ‘16-17 winter season positions. The resort is hosting its Winter Job Fair on Saturday, November 5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Northwoods Clubhouse located at 11509 Northwoods Blvd, Truckee.
  • Voted best place to work in 2014, Tahoe Donner Association employees enjoy free access to our Downhill and Cross Country Ski Areas, in addition to free gym access at Trout Creek Recreation Center, and generous food and retail discounts.

Winter season passes and programs at Tahoe Donner are on sale with early-season rates through November 30.
