Vail Resorts in Lake Tahoe near 300-inch snow total

January 31, 2016 By Jeffrey Weidel

After several years of very modest snow totals, that’s certainly not the case for the 2015-16 ski season, where Lake Tahoe ski resorts have seen an abundance of snow this season. That includes the three Vail Resorts in Lake Tahoe: Heavenly Mountain, Northstar California and Kirkwood Mountain.

The threat of an El Nino year not benefitting the Lake Tahoe ski resorts is no longer valid. The Sierra has been hit hard, starting in November and delivering consistent storms ever since for great skiing and snowboarding. This has been a major boom for all the Lake Tahoe resorts – the majority of them were open by Thanksgiving and by mid-December were operating at or near 100 percent.

Both Northstar and Kirkwood will pass the 300-inch snow total mark perhaps today (Jan. 31), while Heavenly has accumulated some great snow totals this season as well, hitting the 233-inch level this weekend.

All three Vail Resorts benefitted from more snow throughout Saturday. Heavenly received up to 9 inches of new snow, Kirkwood got 7 inches and Northstar was reporting 6 inches.

There’s been a whopping 298-inch season total at both Kirkwood and Northstar, which are excited about getting close to the “300 Club” with February a day away.

Below are the Vail Resort stats for this season:

  • Heavenly: Past 24 hours: 9”: Last 7 days: 13”: Season Total: 233”
  • Kirkwood: Past 24 hours: 7”: Last 7 days: 18”: Season to date: 298”
  • Northstar California: Past 24 hours: 6”: Last 7 days: 17”: Season to date: 298”
