Truckee-Tahoe Pet Lodge: Ideal place to board pet during Lake Tahoe visit

August 21, 2014 By Jeffrey Weidel

For people visiting the Lake Tahoe region this summer and fall from Sacramento or the Bay Area, often times the quandary is whether to bring your pet or not.

While there are Lake Tahoe lodging facilities that welcome pet stays, there are also plenty of places that force one to leave your beloved dog or cat at home.

For people looking for a location to board their pet for a day, several days, or an entire week when visiting North Lake Tahoe, the Truckee-Tahoe Pet Lodge has become a favored location.

Situated in the heart of downtown Truckee at 10960 West River Street, just one mile from Interstate 80, the Pet Lodge is a short drive from Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows and Northstar California ski resorts.

The Truckee-Tahoe Pet Lodge is a reliable place to board dogs or cats overnight, and includes some “luxury” accommodations, according to owner Laura Vanderpool.

“Our mission is to provide a safe, healthy and loving environment for dogs and cats that live in or visit the beautiful Truckee-Tahoe community,” Vanderpool said. “Our guests will be treated to an environment as close to homelike as possible with fresh air, great food and warm friendship.”

That’s right, friendship, which is a little different concept than most pet boarding facilities provide.

At the Truckee-Tahoe Pet Lodge, one of the perks is daily group playtimes in their safe, monitored outdoor play yards, which are a great way to help your pet get acclimated and enjoy this temporary home away from home.

Private play times with staff members are also available for pets that are not suited for group play.

The Pet Lodge will simplify your packing, providing everything from beds totoys to bowls. They can even call your veterinarian to confirm vaccination records, leaving you with one less thing to worry about.

Please identify yourself as a first time customer at the time the reservation is made.

The Truckee-Tahoe Pet Lodge is offering a discount on any accommodations in its spacious facility, including its comfy high end suites (when available) for up to 10 days. The 50-percent discount will be applied upon a $10 donation to the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe.

Boarding discount applies to first-time customers only and is valid for any lodging accommodation selected. The offer does not apply to bathing, daycare or other services offered while lodging with us. The discount is limited to a maximum of 10 boarded nights and is subject to availability in the event of seasonal holiday sell out.  Please always book in advance.  Please identify yourself as a first-time customer at the time the reservation is made.

The Truckee-Tahoe Pet Lodge offers full-service dog and cat grooming for all sizes, breeds, and coat types. The Pet Lodge offers a selection of grooming and bathing services through its grooming salon. If a pet is staying at the lodge, a scheduled appointment can be arranged prior to departure.

Dog in upgraded suite

For people not interested in boarding, grooming services are available. An appointment for a quick bath and dry before taking your dog home on the road can be arranged.

The Pet Lodge has a variety of suites available to suit any size pet. Some activity packages do include suite upgrades because some dogs or cats require more privacy. A reservation specialist can discuss the suite options.

Upgraded Suite includes

  • Flat screen TV with round-the-clock doggie videos
  • Individual climate control
  • Furniture just like home

Dog lodging is as low as $25.95 per night, while Cat lodging is $23 per night.
