Sugar Bowl ski resort opening Saturday (Nov. 21)

November 21, 2015 By Jeffrey Weidel

Like many ski resorts in Lake Tahoe region, Sugar Bowl has decided to push up its opening date. The popular ski resort with the historic background will begin running its lifts Saturday (Nov. 21), becoming the ninth Tahoe resort to open for the 2015-16 season.

Sugar Bowl, located off the Norden exit on Interstate 80, will have top-to-bottom skiing and snowboarding on 1,500 vertical feet of terrain.

Sugar Bowl, located off the Norden exit on Interstate 80, will have top-to-bottom skiing and snowboarding on 1,500 vertical feet of terrain. The resort will remain open on Sunday, but will close Monday through Wednesday next week. Sugar Bowl will reopen for the four-day Thanksgiving weekend.

All operational updates beyond these dates will be available at www.sugarbowl.com.

This weekend the resort will open the Mt. Lincoln Express, Christmas Tree and Nob Hill chairlifts, offering terrain from the top of the resort’s highest peak to the Sugar Bowl Village. Access to the resort will be through the gondola or by parking at Judah for a short walk into the Village.

Recent cold storms have dropped more than 3 feet of snow on Sugar Bowl, which has been supplemented by the resort’s recently upgraded snowmaking system. The cold and snowy start to the season has created good skiing conditions on the mountain.

The Lodge at Sugar Bowl will be open for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend from Wednesday to Sunday. For $159 a night, guests will receive slopeside lodging in a historic snowbound village, with access to the Sporthaus fitness and aquatics center.

Skiers and riders heading up to Sugar Bowl Resort for opening day can take advantage of season passes, which are still on sale, or the new Advantage Pass. The $25 Advantage Pass gives holders direct-to-lift access all season long, and $15 discounts on their lift ticket every day of the season.

Cross country skiers can also use the Advantage Pass to get $5 off on a Royal Gorge trail pass throughout the season. Lift tickets for opening weekend will be priced at $72 (adult) for a full day of skiing & riding.  Royal Gorge will also be announcing their opening day plans in the near future.

Season passes and the Advantage Pass are available for purchase at http://www.sugarbowl.com/seasonpass.

Diamond Peak announced today that thanks to an abundance of natural snow along with good snowmaking temperatures throughout much of November, the resort will open Thursday, Dec. 3, pushing its opening date up by one week.

Granlibakken plans on opening its sled hill Saturday and has a tentative date for the ski hill on December 11.
