Ritz-Carlton Lake Tahoe will add outdoor BBQ restaurant

October 14, 2013 By Jeffrey Weidel

The Ritz-Carlton is one of the coolest places to hang out in Lake Tahoe any time of year. And the Ritz will add one more reason for people to visit its hotel at Northstar with the addition of its new Backyard Bar & BBQ.

Construction has begun of the new al fresco dining establishment, slated to open early this winter. Located on the back patio of the luxury Lake Tahoe resort, The Backyard Bar & BBQ will offer guests a new year-round casual dining experience with ski-in/ski-out outdoor dining at Northstar in the winter and poolside convenience during the summer.

“The Backyard Bar & BBQ will offer resort guests the opportunity to enjoy lunch and après ski dining and drinks mere steps from the slopes,” said Joseph Mattioli, general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe.

“Along with other recent upgrades, including the expansion of the patio and additional outdoor seating, our guests will find The Backyard to be much more animated, and a welcoming place to relax and enjoy the mountain setting.”

The restaurant will feature a “blues, brews and BBQ” concept, with the menu offering traditional barbeque favorites including St. Louis smoked ribs, brisket and pulled pork platters cooked with an on-site smoker, a selection of house made BBQ sauces, wood-fired oven baked pizzas, traditional burgers and bratwurst along with home-style side dishes and desserts.

A seasonal beverage program with saloon-inspired cocktails and local craft beer selections will also be offered. During the winter season, the restaurant will offer après ski food and beverage specials to guests stepping off the adjacent slopes, and casual outdoor cookouts during the summer months, perfect for Lake Tahoe family vacationers.

Designed by Lake Tahoe-based Ward-Young Architecture & Planning, The Backyard Bar & BBQ will offer walk-up counter food service and a full bar. The building’s design will complement the architecture of the North Lake Tahoe hotel itself, and is scheduled to open mid-December 2013.
