Northstar California hosts endurance mountain bike race on July 19

July 12, 2014 By Jeffrey Weidel

Endurance mountain bikers will compete in the Tahoe Trail 100-Kilometer Race at Northstar California Resort on Saturday, July 19 – all vying to qualify for the legendary challenge of the Leadville Trail 100-mile mountain bike race in August, which stretches through 100 miles of technical Colorado terrain.TahoeTrail 2

Tahoe Trail 100

Start time for the Tahoe Trail 100 race is Saturday, July 19 at 7 a.m. at the Northstar Castle Peak parking area located beneath The Village at Northstar.  Riders will negotiate two 50-kilometer loops through some of Tahoe’s most renowned terrain, including sections along the historic Tevis Trail, iconic Painted Rock, and beautiful Lake Tahoe overlooks.

“Endurance races have gained center stage within the realm of mountain bike competition,” said Andrew Buckley, senior director of skier services for Northstar and Tahoe Trail and Leadville Trail competitor.  “The discipline is a combination of technical skill, endurance, and mental strength.  The Tahoe Trail 100 allows for riders, their families, support crew and friends to experience their sport in one of the world’s most scenic destinations.”

Tahoe Trail and Leadville Trail Champions to Lead Race Preview Rides

Participants have two opportunities to preview course sections guided by endurance ride champions. The first preview ride is set for Sunday, July 13 and will be led by 2011 Tahoe Trail 100 champion and six-time Cycling World Championship team member, Julie Young.  The second preview ride, scheduled for Friday, June 18, will be guided by six-time Leadville Trail 100 champion, Dave Wiens and four-time Leadville Trail 100 champion, Rebecca Rusch. Preview rides will start and finish in The Village at Northstar.TahoeTrail

Registration

Registration is open until Tuesday, July 15, and can be completed at NorthstarCalifornia.com.  Any remaining open spots may be filled by registering in-person Friday, July 18 from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. in The Village at Northstar.

Pre-Race Checklist – Friday, July 18:

Noon to 5 p.m.:  Riders check in and receive race packets. Photo ID is required and packets must be picked up in person.  Mandatory racer check-in and race number pick-up will also take place.

1 p.m.: Course preview ride with Dave Weins and Rebecca Rusch

4 p.m.:  Leadville Trail 100 founder Ken Chlouber will lead the mandatory athlete pre-race meeting in The Village at Northstar.  Final details, course descriptions, and Ken’s famous character will inspire racers into the event.  “You are better than you think you are,” Chlouber famously states.  “You can do more than you think you can.”

Northstar is located on Highway 267, just six miles north of Lake Tahoe and six miles south of downtown Truckee. For more information, call 1.800.GO.NORTH (1.800.466.6784) or visit www.NorthstarCalifornia.com.
