North American ski resorts still open

May 18, 2024 By Jeffrey Weidel

Who says ski season is over. Not these 15 North American ski resorts, including two in California.

Palisades Tahoe is the only Tahoe ski resort still open for the 2023-24 season. Its closing date is Memorial Day (May 27).

So, if you’re a snow enthusiast who isn’t ready to say goodbye to winter just yet, grab your gear and hit the slopes for some epic spring skiing and riding adventures before the season concludes.

The lone Tahoe ski resort still open is Palisades Tahoe, which has a closing date on Memorial Day (May 27). Nothing new here. There aren’t many years when Palisades Tahoe is not the last Tahoe ski resort to pull the curtain down on another ski season.

Mammoth Mountain is the other California resort still open. Like Palisades Tahoe, Mammoth is also open through Memorial Day.

WHAT’S COOL ABOUT SPING SKIING: Spring skiing offers a unique experience for snow lovers. The weather is warm, the days are longer, and the vibe is way more relaxed.

Here are a few reasons why spring skiing is cool.

  • Sun-drenched Days: Enjoy bluebird days with plenty of sunshine, perfect for working on your tan.
  • Slopes uncrowded: With many skiers and snowboarders already transitioning to summer activities, the crowds are fewer and the lines are shorter.

Last season, Mammoth Mountain received 885 inches of snow at its summit and was open through August. 5.
  • Snow conditions: Spring skiing often features softer corn snow that’s forgiving and fun to ski.
  • Après-Ski Fun: The après-ski scene comes alive with outdoor parties, typically live music and festive spring events.
  • The Deals: Resorts often offer discounted lift tickets and lodging packages toward the end of the season.
