Looking to take a long trip in an electric vehicle? Perhaps the 2026 Lucid Air is the way to travel.

Haven’t heard of Lucid? Understandable. Founded by Tesla engineers, the California-based luxury EV manufacturer has been around since 2022 and thus far has produced two vehicles – the Lucid Air and the just released Lucid Gravity SUV.
It’s a high-performance electric luxury sedan with industry-leading range (between 420-516 miles) that also possesses fast-charging capabilities. That is why Lucid is unmatched when it comes to EV road-tripping, which can be an issue when going long distances and having to stop frequently for charging.
Lucid Air received a minor increase this year in its mid-level Touring trim, going from 406 miles up to 431 miles. Overall, the Lucid Air offers the largest range among all EVs.
Every trim model is equipped with a mobile charging cord. The Lucid Air has the fastest charging speeds of any EV – 300 miles of range in roughly 20-22 minutes when using a 350kW DC fast chargers. A 240V Level 2, at-home station can fully recharge the battery in around 8-12 hours.
Because this is only the vehicle’s fifth year, part of the downsize with Lucid Air is the unproven factor. Depreciation remains significant from the original starting price. The issue is attributed to early production quality matters, low brand recognition, material shortages, and expensive maintenance costs.
However, many auto industry experts consider the Lucid Air superior to Tesla in luxury, driving dynamics and build quality. Tesla is considered better in terms of software, charging infrastructure and overall value. A year ago, the Lucid Air had sales of 15,841, a 55% increase over 2024.
Like the Tesla, the Lucid Air delivers exhilarating performance, regardless of which one of the four trims (Pure, Touring, Grand Touring, Sapphire) one drives.
The base model rear-wheel drive Pure is equipped with an 88kWh battery and has a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 430 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. It goes 0-60 mph in around 4.4 seconds and gets 146 MPG. Overall, the Air lineup ranges from 430 to 1,234 horsepower.
If the excessive cost ($249,000) is no barrier, the top-tier Sapphire is incredibly fast. It has three electric motors and delivers an off-the-chart 1,234 horsepower and 1,430 pound-feet of torque. Hold on tight because the standard all-wheel drive Sapphire can travel 0-60 mph in 1.89 seconds. It gets 101-108 MPGe.
Driving the Lucid Air is a treat; it’s smooth, quiet, controlled and provides precise handling. Obviously, the speed is where the thrill of driving the Air is most felt.
Standard driver safety features include collision avoidance; automatic emergency braking; forward and rear pedestrian collision protection; blind spot warning; traffic sign recognition; drowsy/distracted driver alerts; lane keeping assist; lane departure protection; adaptive cruise control; auto park; and automatic high beams.

The Lucid Air has three screens that combine for one unit, located behind the steering wheel and in the center console.
The luxury sedan offers a ton of interesting technology, although in our opinion some of it is unnecessary. Having to use the touchscreen to adjust the outside mirrors is one primary example. Although there are some physical knobs, most things need to be done on the screens.
The interior is impressive, featuring a 34-inch, curved glass cockpit display. There are three screens that combine for one unit, located behind the steering wheel and in the center console. Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and 9-speaker stereo are standard. Note that Lucid’s software continues to improve, yet it can still be frustrating at times.
Front seating offers excellent comfort and more than enough leg and head room. The rear seats are terrific for two adults and three people are not a tight squeeze. Cargo area is 22.1 cubic feet and includes a 10-foot front trunk (frunk) that is large enough to fit two suitcases.
All things considered, the 2026 Lucid Air is a luxury sedan that keeps improving. Its range can’t be matched and the Air also delivers superb performance, comfort and at times feels effortless to drive.
