Another snow storm is definitely on the Christmas wish list, but the good news in Lake Tahoe is all 14 of its ski resorts are now open.
The available terrain for skiing and snowboarding at Lake Tahoe ski resorts is still not close to being optimal at any one resort, but a sizable snow storm last week and cold temperatures have allowed many Lake Tahoe ski resorts to make snow.
All 14 Tahoe resorts open this weekend
Soda Springs ski resort, Donner Ski Ranch and Alpine Meadows ski resort all opened on Friday, followed by Tahoe Donner ski resort’s debut Saturday
Alpine opens with five lifts operating
Alpine Meadows ski resort had five lifts and seven groomed trails available for its opening with skiing and snowboarding top to bottom at the resort off Highway 89 in Truckee.
When operating in full, Alpine Meadows ski resort offers skiers and riders access to more than 100 trails across 2,400 skiable acres serviced by 13 lifts.
Squaw’s Mountain Run open
Squaw Valley open in late November and currently offers open top to bottom with 10 lifts and 21 runs, including Mountain Run, the longest run at Squaw.
This weekend, both Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, which are under the same management, will roll out the Learn to Ski and Ride Special. Beginner skiers and riders at both mountains can purchase a beginner lift ticket, equipment rentals, and a half-day lesson all for just $49.

Homewood opened with free lift tickets
Homewood ski resort has added a little twist to its opening day this Wednesday, Dec. 11 – Opening day lift tickets are free!
Recent storms in the Lake Tahoe region dropped a total of 27 inches of fresh snow on Homewood ski resort, located on Lake Tahoe’s west shore off Highway 89. The snow storm augmented the base layer created by Homewood ski resort’s snowmaking crew over the past seven days.
Homewood had been scheduled to open on Friday, Dec. 13.
“With over two feet of fresh snow on the ground from recent storms, everybody at Homewood has been eager to open up the resort to the public and welcome the Homewood family back for another great season of skiing and snowboarding,” said Homewood Marketing Director Paul Raymore. “And what better way to kick off the season than with a day of free skiing and riding for all!”
