Why Lake Tahoe is a wonderful ski destination

February 4, 2017 By Jeffrey Weidel

By Wendell Gordon

Lake Tahoe is considered one of the most beautiful ski destinations in the world thanks to its spectacular views. People who are looking for a skiing or snowboarding challenge can visit Tahoe to enjoy a memorable experience that offers sweeping views of the surrounding Sierra mountain range.

Heavenly Mountain in South Lake Tahoe offers more than 4,800 acres of skiable terrain, including a considerable amount of trees to traverse.

Below are some reasons that Lake Tahoe is a great place to ski or ride.

Larger Resorts

Tahoe is home to Heavenly Mountain, which offers an enormous mountain for skiers and riders who want to experience some wide open runs when making their way down the mountain. Over 4,800 acres of skiable terrain is available.

Advanced skiers are often drawn to Tahoe for the steep trails that that can be experienced at Squaw Valley. Many resorts also feature plenty of trees for skiers and riders who like to venture into those areas. Intermediate skiers can also take advantage of numerous nice, long cruiser runs that are featured at Northstar California.

More Resorts

There are 14 different ski resorts in the Lake Tahoe region. There are large resorts like Heavenly, Squaw Valley and Northstar California, but also many smaller, family-friendly resorts like Soda Springs, Homewood Mountain, Diamond Peak and Tahoe Donner Downhill.

More Activities

Vacationing in Tahoe means having access to more activities and restaurants that are available, which makes it easy to stay busy and have more fun instead of staying in your hotel room.

You’ll get the chance to take a lake cruise or snowmobile in remote areas that feel hidden from the rest of the city. Dog sledding and snowshoeing on various trails are additional activities to enjoy.

Snowmobiling is a popular winter activity in Lake Tahoe and often leads to scenic views of the lake.

The night life is also cool in Tahoe. Gamblers can enjoy spending time at the tables or slot machines, or see a comedy or musical show at one of the many casinos.

There are often concerts that are held for the younger crowd at Harrah’s and various art galleries where you can purchase photographs and paintings that depict the natural beauty of the region. Several high-end clothing stores and boutiques are an additional draw.

Beautiful Views

Lake Tahoe has been well-preserved over the years and has a community of residents who are proactive about keeping Tahoe blue. The location offers spectacular views of the water, which is the largest Alpine lake in North America. The sunsets are spectacular with a variety of colors that can be seen strewn across the sky each evening.
