Lake Tahoe’s Vail Resorts hit by snow storm

February 10, 2015 By Jeffrey Weidel

After more than six weeks without snow, the three Lake Tahoe Vail Resorts got their wish granted – more snow!

The recent series of winter storms treated all three Lake Tahoe Vail Resorts – Northstar California, Heavenly Mountain, Kirkwood Mountain – quite well, setting up a great week of skiing and snowboarding for its guests.

The three-day storm that began Friday and concluded today (Feb. 9), dumped a sizable amount of snow. The storm delivered 19 inches of snow to Northstar California, 18 inches to Kirkwood and 16 inches of accumulation to Heavenly.

The three Vail Resorts offer a combined 48 lifts.

“The recent storms complement the resorts’ ongoing snowmaking and grooming,” said Casey Blann, vice president and chief operating officer for Kirkwood. “The snow that we’ve made has been so well-maintained that the additional natural snowfall has made for a great skiing and riding experience.”

Heading into Presidents’ Day Weekend, the snow arrived at an opportune time.

“Heavenly currently offers 17.7 miles of skiing and riding, many of Northstar’s slopes are more than a mile long, and Kirkwood is 100 percent open.” Blann said. “The resorts are looking forward to a great Presidents’ Day holiday weekend.”
