Palisades Tahoe reschedules Cushing Crossing to May 11

May 1, 2024 By Jeffrey Weidel

Due to the incoming weather this weekend, Palisades Tahoe has decided to reschedule its annual Pond Crossing event, pushing it back to Saturday, May 11.

Crossing the lake is no easy task for skiers or snowboarders.

Aside from the date that was originally this Saturday, all details will remain the same. The highly-popular Pond Skim is from 1-4 pm and DJ Logic starts at 4 pm on the KT deck

It’s an event that many ski resorts put in the category of the “silly season.” And a primary silly event for this time of year at Palisades Tahoe is the annual Cushing Crossing.

Haven’t witnessed a Cushing Crossing? You should. It’s FUN! And since every other Tahoe ski resort has closed for the season (see list below), Palisades Tahoe is the only resort still running its lifts for skiing and riding.

Closing day is scheduled for May 27. The resort has received 397 inches of snow for the 2023-24 season.

The Cushing Crossing is a comical pond-skimming contest that is widely regarded as the best event of the spring ski season. The Cushing Crossing starts at 1 pm, weather and conditions permitting.

If it’s anything like previous events, the 32nd  annual Cushing Crossing at Palisades Tahoe ski resort will be fun and full of laughter and spills as participants attempt to ski or snowboard across a pond of freezing water dressed in some of the zaniest costumes one ever sees at a ski hill.

Space is limited, and registration is first-come, first-served. Registration starts at 8 am Saturday (May 11) at the KT Deck. The registration fee is $20, payable in cash only. Participants must be 18-older, wear a costume, and be present at registration (no one can register on behalf of another participant).

The rescheduled Cushing Crossing will take place Saturday, May 11.

Admission to view the event is free. Everyone is encouraged to dress up in their wackiest costumes.

The location of the Cushing Pond is near the base of KT-22 lift. It’s recommended that spectators bring a chair, sun protection, and water.

In addition to the adrenaline-pumping pond-skimming action, attendees can look forward to a panel of local celebrity judges and two of the best emcees in the business. Category winners will receive prizes from sponsors, including Yeti, Smith, GoPro, Dakine, and Darn Tough.

The annual Cushing Crossing is a fun event for both participants and spectators at Palisades Tahoe.

After the awards ceremony, check out the live music from the free Spring Tracks Music Series presented by Ikon Pass with DJ Logic at the KT Base Bar.

The Cushing Crossing, named after the resort’s founder – Alex Cushing – is the original pond-skimming contest that began back in the early 1990s.

In addition to the adrenaline-pumping pond-skimming action, attendees can look forward to a panel of local celebrity judges and two of the best emcees in the business. Plus, there will be an awards ceremony immediately following the event at Cushing Pond.

DISCOUNT LIFT TICKETS: A sharable pack of 3 lift tickets for $99 each is what the Spring Ticket Trio is all about. It includes three all-ages lift tickets good for any three days.

One person can use all three lift tickets themselves, or share a ticket or two with friends or family members. The Spring Ticket Trio is available onsite or online.

Palisades Tahoe is the only Tahoe ski resort still open. The resort has received 397 inches of snow this season and closes May 27.
